On September 18, 2008, Dean Earl Martin, Assistant Dean of Students John Sklut, and nine current Gonzaga Law School students attended the Washington State Bar Association’s annual meeting and awards dinner, held at the Grand Hyatt Seattle Hotel.
At the event, Gonzaga Law School graduate Jon Ostlund received the 2008 Angelo J. Petruss Award for Lawyers in Public Service. The award is given to a lawyer in government service who has made a significant contribution to the legal profession, the justice system, and the public.
The award is named in honor of Angelo J. Petruss, a senior assistant attorney general who passed away during his term on the WSBA Board of Governors.
Mr. Ostlund served as the Whatcom County Public Defender for 24 years and retired in 2006. He served on the WSBA Board of Governors from 2001-2004, and on the Blue Ribbon Panel on Public Defense. He was co-chair of the WSBA Committee on Public Defense.
