
Native American Law Students Association (NALSA)
Bylaws
Article I - Purpose
1. The purpose of the Native American Law Students Association at the Gonzaga University School of Law is to promote the study of Native American Law, the study of Law by Native Americans, and the retention and support of Native Students at the Gonzaga University School of Law. Additionally, NALSA strives to represent indigenous views and values in the greater Gonzaga University School of Law community.
Article II - Membership
1. Membership in NALSA is open to all students and faculty of the Gonzaga University School of Law, Native and Non-Native; law students and non-law students. NALSA invites participation of anyone interested in the education and/or reform of legal issues involving Native American and other Indigenous Peoples.
2. All Native American, Native Alaskan, Native Hawaiian, or other Indigenous Peoples are encouraged to attend.
3. Native American pre-law undergraduate students are encouraged to attend NALSA meetings and events, and to communicate with NALSA members for purposes of mentorship.
4. Membership is open to all without regard to race, color, religion, creed, nationality, age, sex, marital status, veteran status, sexual orientation, physical ability or any other considerations not directly related to effective participation.
Article III - Events and Sponsorships
1. All NALSA sponsored events will be controlled-substance free.
2. NALSA realizes its responsibilities as a Native Student group on the Gonzaga University campus to represent the Native student population in recognizing visiting Native and Non-Native faculty and speakers, and honoring and “gifting” them whenever possible.
3. Time permitting, NALSA will work with other Native student groups on campus to support their events and members.
Article IV - Meetings
1. Meetings of NALSA will be held every two weeks during the first 12 weeks of each semester, unless otherwise deemed necessary by NALSA officers.
2. All orders of business will be decided by an affirmative vote of a simple majority of members present at the meeting where said business is proposed.
3. NALSA meetings are open to the public and community members are encouraged to attend.
Article V- Elections
1. Dates of all elections will be decided by a simple majority vote of all members present at the "election meeting." At least a one week notice of these meetings will be given to all NALSA members.
2. Officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Activities Coordinator) will be decided by a simple majority of voting members.
Article VI - Removal of Officer[s] or Member[s]
1. Removal of any officer or member requires an affirmative vote of 3/4 of all active NALSA members.
Article VII - Amendment to By-Laws
1. Any amendment[s] requires an affirmative vote of 2/3 of all active NALSA members.
Article VIII - Comments
1. These By-Laws are the binding Constitution of the Native American Law Students Association.
2. The membership of the Native American Law Students Association reserves the right to amend or abolish some or all of these By-Laws at any time it deems necessary by a 2/3 super-majority vote.

We, the undersigned, hereby certify that these By-Laws were adopted by the membership of the Native American Law Students Association at the Gonzaga University School of Law. Furthermore, we certify that these By-Laws are in full effect commencing on the date of certification.
