The masthead of this issue of the Gonzaga Law Review contains a noticeable absence—the name of Dean Emeritus Lewis H. Orland. He passed away on February 14, 2012.

Lewis Orland was born on September 18, 1915 in Moscow, Idaho. He obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Idaho in 1937 and his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1940. Although Orland quickly found work as a government lawyer in Washington, D.C., he was soon commissioned as a naval officer during World War II. Not one to waste an opportunity, Orland pursued graduate studies at the University of Geneva and traveled extensively in Europe following the war.
