One of the most disturbing trends in the United States today is the growth of the megafirm in law practice. The megafirm’s recent ascendancy is the end result of a socially destructive approach to the practice of law. The megafurm is therefore itself socially destructive.
This paper will show the conditions which led to our current client-based view of the adversary system and how the megafirm has arisen out of this view as a result of changes in societal makeup.
