Center for Justice Founder and Board President Jim Sheehan will lead an engaging presentation and discussion about his vision for the Center for Justice and the steps he took to make it the thriving legal services organization it is today. After graduating from Gonzaga Law School and spending more than 20 years as a public defender in Eastern and Western Washington, Mr. Sheehan received a windfall inheritance and wanted to put it to work for the greater good. He renovated the Saranac Hotel in downtown Spokane, recreating it as the Community Building, a safe, welcoming, and affordable home for area nonprofit offices. And he founded the Center – a nonprofit law firm dedicated to protecting human rights, preserving the Earth, and holding the government accountable to the principles of democracy.
In a December 2010 Inlander article, Mr. Sheehan described the importance of an organization like Center for Justice:
“It’s really simple: We are here to do what we can do to facilitate access for people who don’t have it. You can say this until you’re blue in the face, but a lot of people don’t understand it. If you don’t have resources, you really don’t have access to our legal system.”
