Over the weekend of February 15th, Gonzaga competed in the Phillip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition at the University of Denver, where the Rocky Mountain Regional competition took place. Cara Lorenzo (2L), Silvia Irimescu (2L), Holly Timmerman (3L), and David Clukey (3L) represented Gonzaga University School of Law, coached by Professors Lisa Bradley and Upendra Acharya.
Twenty-two schools competed including Stanford, USC, University of San Diego, and BYU. Our teams faced Vanderbilt, which placed 1st, the University of Minnesota, which placed 3rd, Texas Tech, and Washburn. Despite performing exceptionally, the Gonzaga team did not advance to the final rounds.
Judges’ reviews of the oral arguments included such praise as “impressive knowledge of the law,” “great poise notwithstanding difficult arguments,” and “razor-sharp rebuttal.” Team members received several highest possible “excellent” scores in the oral criteria. One of the memos submitted by the Gonzaga team received an impressive 98 out of 100 points possible.
