- On February 5, Professor Kanassatega presented at the University of Washington – School of Law’s “Professionalism in Practice: Ethics in Action CLE.” He addressed two issues: (1) the authority of the Washington State Bar Association to regulate the “practice of law” and to enforce rules governing lawyer conduct in courts, tribunals, and administrative agencies created under the law of a federally recognized Indian tribe; and (2) new ethical considerations for qualified law students who engage in conduct that could be construed to be the “practice of law” in those same courts, tribunals, and administrative agencies.
- Professor Ann Murphy recently reviewed a 2/2/10 Tax Court decision allowing the costs of gender reassignment surgery/hormone therapy for a transgender taxpayer as a medical expense. It is published in the Lexis/Nexus Tax Law Center.
- Professor Cheryl Beckett’s article Burnout in the Seasoned LR&W Teacher—“Be Careful What You Wish For” will be published in the Spring 2010 issue of the “Second Draft, Celebrating 25 Years of the Legal Writing Institute,” a publication of the Legal Writing Institute.
- Professor Dan Morrissey’s article, The Road Not Taken: Rethinking Securities Regulation and the Case for Federal Merit Review” was published last week in the University of Richmond Law Review.
