On Friday April 18, the Women’s Law Caucus hosted its 16th Annual Myra Bradwell Award ceremony.
Each year the award is presented to a Gonzaga Law alumnus who has furthered women’s and children’s issues through the law. The award is named after Myra Bradwell, who despite having to overcome many obstacles, was the first female attorney admitted to practice in the United States.
Debra Stephens, this year’s recipient, was recently appointed as the newest member of the Washington Supreme Court, and the ceremony drew attorneys and judges from across the state.
Judge Stephens is a 1993 graduate of Gonzaga University School of Law. An appellate attorney in Spokane, she was appointed to the Division III Court of Appeals in 2008 and in early 2008 was appointed the state Supreme Court. Judge Stephens has also been an adjunct professor at the law school since 1997.
