The Red Mass for the legal profession was held on Monday, September 22, 2008 at St. Aloysius Church.
Fr. Robert J. Spitzer presided and gave the homily, during his final year as President of Gonzaga University.
Mary M. Doran, President-elect of the Spokane County Bar Association read the names of Gonzaga University School of Law alumni and friends, along with the Spokane Bar Association members that passed away during the past year.
“Judge White is truly deserving of the Distinguished Judicial Service Award for his stellar work in our legal system,” Martin said.
Judge White has served as probation officer for the Spokane County Juvenile Court and as an intern clerk in the Office of the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington. He was a principal with Evans, Craven and Lackie, and has served as Spokane County District Court Judge from 1990 to present, currently as the presiding judge.
He served as the domestic violence court judge and in 2002 received the Leadership Award from the Domestic Violence Consortium for his efforts. In 1997, he co-chaired the committee that established the felony drug court, and he presides as the DUI intensive supervision court judge.
Following the Mass, The Hon. Maryann Moreno, Gonzaga University School of Law, class of 1983, awarded the 2008-2009 Washington Judges Foundation Lawless Memorial Scholarship to Ryan Ellersick, a second-year law school student.
