Your Financial Aid Package

spacer

Any number of tools are available to help finance your law-school education. The Financial Aid Office will work with you to create a package that best satisfies your needs. It might include a combination of loans, scholarships, work-study employment, veterans benefits, and other awards.

Each year, your award package will be summarized in a document called the Official Award of Financial Aid Notice.

Your package may include:

Loans

A variety of federal, state, and private loans is available. Be aware that not all loans are created equal, though. For more information, click here.

Scholarships

During the upcoming year Gonzaga University will award more than $1.5 million in scholarships. GU law students compete for an assortment of institutional scholarships, including the Thomas More and James Rogers scholarships, as well as endowed scholarships.

Students may also apply for outside scholarships. In some situations, these will impact a student's financial aid award. In such cases, we adjust the awards package by reducing loan amounts.

Learn more about scholarships here.

State Work Study

The State of Washington funds the State Work Study (SWS) program, which enables employers to develop jobs for GU law students.

Other Awards

  • Family Discounts

If two or more family members (brother/sister, husband/wife, parent/child) enroll in the School of Law, a tuition reduction of 10% is available for one of them.

To qualify, request a Tuition Discount form upon acceptance to the School of Law.

  • Veteran Benefits

Our academic programs are approved by the Washington State Higher Education Coordinating Board's State Approving Agency (HECB/SAA) for enrollment of persons eligible to receive educational benefits under Title 38 & Title 10 USC.

Veterans attending law school who receive educational benefits pursuant to Title 38 & Title 10, must remain actively enrolled and attending law school to receive those benefits.

If studies are interrupted due to academic dismissal, leave of absence, or withdrawal, we will notify the Department of Veteran Administration and benefits will be suspended until such time as the subject veteran is once again actively enrolled, registered, and attending classes.

Please contact the Gonzaga University's Veterans Coordinator in Room 229 of the Administration Building for information, to apply for benefits, and to obtain certifications of enrollment.

Official Award of Financial Aid Notice

Once we have received your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from the agency that administers the federal financial aid program, we will prepare your award package.

This award is made for Fall and Spring semesters and takes into account institutional scholarships which you were awarded during the admissions process, as well as any other scholarships you receive.

It assumes you will be enrolled on a full-time basis.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • After either accepting or declining the various aid types, it is important that you return as quickly as possible the school copy of the Official Award of Financial Aid Notice.
  • Keep your copy with your other financial aid records. This booklet includes an outline of the various types of financial aid considered when compiling your aid package.

Students who do not file the FAFSA are not reviewed for federal or state assistance of any type. However, they may still be eligible for certain merit scholarships determined through the admissions process.
