Fagan, who founded the Meiklejohn Civil Liberties Institute in Berkeley, California, will speak on "How To Make the Universal Declaration of Human Rights the Law of Spokane." She appears under the auspices of Gonzaga's International Law Society, a student organization. Founded in 1965, the Meiklejohn Civil Liberties Institute has been described as “an organizer for the right to education, a clearing house for information about social change, an advocate of government accountability, a training center, and repository of history.” Additionally, it has been called the "Civil Liberties Church," a think tank and archive of on-going research. It seeks to promote social change by increasing the recognition and use of existing human rights and peace law at the local, state, national, and international levels. Ginger has written 24 books and taught at San Francisco State University. She lectures widely on human rights and peace law under the U.S. Constitution and the UN Charter and treaties. A reception (appetizers and drinks included) will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by Fagan’s presentation at 6 p.m. in the Moot Court Room. |

Activist, attorney, and legal scholar Ann Fagen Ginger will speak at Gonzaga Law School at 6 p.m., Tuesday, October 13.
