Hispanic Law Caucus hosts Quincy students

Approximately 20 tenth-grade students from Quincy High School in Quincy, Washington, visited the law school in January.

On January 23, 2009, the Gonzaga Hispanic Law Caucus (GHLC) hosted approximately 20 tenth-grade students from Quincy High School, in Quincy, Washington.

The students are part of Quincy High School’s GEAR UP Program, which aims to assist youth in achieving personal goals.

Members and friends of the GHLC told the students why they chose Gonzaga Law School and shared law-school experiences. The students toured the law school and participated in a question-and-answer session in the Barbieri Moot Court Room.

The GHLC will welcome this same group of students back to the law school in March for the “Alcanzar Justice” High School Mock Trial. These “pipeline” programs are part of the law school’s commitment to educating youth about the law and encouraging them to pursue higher education.

GEAR UP stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs. It is a partnership of the Higher Education Coordinating Board, Office of the Governor, the University of Washington, College Success Foundation, and a number of national, state and local organizations. Its 37 statewide programs help students from under-served schools prepare for college and gain access to financial aid.
