For the fifth consecutive year, a team from the GU School of Law has placed nationally in the Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition.

In March, they will travel to Washington, D.C., to receive their awards.

A national Intellectual Property competition, the Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition focuses on issues of trademark and unfair competition. It is sponsored by the International Trademark Association.

Gonzaga competitors included Jonathan Bachison, Beau Ellis, Patrick McNulty, Megan New, Samuel Sorensen, Kevin Walsh, and Kevin Zeck. They were coached by GU Assistant Professor Sheri Engelken.

In the first stage of the competition Gonzaga competed in the Western Region against teams from Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

On February 7,  the Gonzaga team of New, Zeck, and Walsh was awarded second-place overall honors in the Western Region. Its brief was named the region's Best Brief, which placed it in the running for national Best Brief honors.

On February 18, the team learned its brief had been judged second-best in the nation. Students from approximately 70 schools across the country compete at the national level.

GU’s winning team has been invited to Washington, D.C., where they will receive their award from the competition sponsor. The award ceremony will be held March 21 at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
