Luvera Lecture Series
![]()
The Luvera Lecture Series is made possible by support from GU Law graduates Paul and Lita Luvera.
Paul Luvera, who is a native of Anacortes, is a 1959 graduate of Gonzaga University School of Law. He is the co-founder of the Seattle firm of Luvera, Barnett, Brindley, Beninger & Cunningham.
Lawdragon Magazine described him as "the dean of the plaintiff’s bar for all the Northwest.”
Paul represented the State of Washington against the tobacco industry, was lead counsel for the East Coast sniper victims against the gun industry, and represented the family of Crystal Brame in a murder/suicide case against the Tacoma Chief of Police. He has been selected by The National Law Journal, The American Lawyer and The Washington Journal as one of the nation's best trial lawyers. Over the course of many years of seeking justice for his clients, Paul has secured 15 jury verdicts exceeding one million dollars, including a $40 million verdict in Snohomish county earlier this year.
Lita Barnett-Luvera, who graduated from Gonzaga Law School in 1977, founded the Luvera Law Firm with Paul in 1978. She represents plaintiffs in major damage cases and has been involved in numerous multi-million-dollar trials and settlements in personal injury, products liability, and medical malpractice cases.
In addition to her busy life as a practicing attorney, Lita is active in a wide variety of social and charitable organizations. She is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Patrons of Northwest Civil, Cultural and Charitable Organizations, which is dedicated to enriching the quality of life in Seattle by increasing resources and community support of the arts. She also supports the Children's Hospital Foundation and the Swedish Hospital Summit Club, and she has served on the Gonzaga University Board of Regents since 1999.
The Luveras have given generously to Gonzaga School of Law. In addition to endowing this lecture series, they founded and support a student scholarship fund and funded two seminar rooms and a chapel that bear their name in the law school building.
