Bullet::Installing and Using Library Printers from Your Laptop

Installing and Using Library Printers from Your Laptop with XP or Vista

Printers are located on all three floors of the library. The printers in Lab 1 and Lab 2 are both HP 9000s with duplexing (printing on both sides of the page) capability. The third floor printer is located in the copy room and will also duplex. The copy room is to the left as you step out the elevator on the third floor.

To connect to and use these printers please follow the instructions below:

XP users--

  1. Click Start, Run and type in \\lawdog then click OK.

Vista users--

  1. Click the Orb in the lower-left and type \\lawdog in the Search box and press Enter.

The Connect to dialog box appears, as shown below.

2.  Enter gonzlaw\username (username is your user name) in the User name text box, and enter your password in the Password text box.

A Lawdog window appears displaying all available printers.

3.  Locate a printer you want to install, and then right click it to display its shortcut menu, and then click Connect. Vista users will be prompted to click on install driver and it will look like the printer is not responding--but it is. Vista users may also be prompted to allow this process by clicking on Continue. The drivers will install--it just takes a few minutes.

Repeat Step 3 for each of the library printers you want to install. The names of the three library printers are:

 Lab 1 HP 9000

 Lab 2 HP 9000

 Library 3

4.  To choose a default printer, click Start – Control Panel and then double-click Printers and Faxes or Printers for Vista users.

5.  Right click the printer you use most often, and then click Set as default printer.

*REMEMBER – You will have to authenticate with the server, Lawdog, once per networking session to be able to print. XP users click Start, Run, type in \\lawdog and click OK. Vista users click the orb in the lower-left, type \\lawdog in the Search box, and press Enter. Then type gonzlaw\username and your networking password. When the lawdog window appears, just close it and you are ready to print.
