Westlaw and LexisNexis Printing

A Westlaw printer and a LexisNexis printer are available in each of the labs for student use. Westlaw printing and LexisNexis printing are free only when directed to the respective Westlaw and LexisNexis printer.

Library Printers

The library provides a Hewlett-Packard LaserJet printer in each of the labs and in the third floor copy room for student use. You can access these printers from the lab computers or from your own laptop via the law school network. The remainder of this section pertains to student use of these library printers.

Free Printing Allotment

The Library provides 3,000 free pages of printing for each entering student. This free printing allotment is for the duration of the student's law school career. The allotment is prorated for students transferring to Gonzaga. The number of pages you print on library printers is automatically deducted from your free printing allotment. A double-sided printed sheet counts as two pages.

Charges for Pages in Excess of Free Printing Allotment

Pages printed beyond your free printing allotment are charged at the rate of $0.06 per page.

Monitoring Your Printing Balance

There is no automatic facility that alerts you when your free printing allotment is running low or has been completely used. It is your responsibility to self-monitor your free print allotment. You are strongly encouraged to make this a habit, and the process is simple and quick:

  1. Log on to any computer lab terminal.
  2. Click the $ icon located to the right of the "Start" button.
  3. Your print balance immediately displays: "Balance of user name:####."

    a.  If the number is positive (e.g. 200), this is the number of free pages you still have available.
    b.  If the number is negative (e.g., -200), this is the amount of pages printed in excess of your free allotment. Since the per-page cost is $0.06, the amount owed for 200 pages is $12.00.

If a print job fails to print, or prints improperly, e.g. wrinkled paper or uneven toner, you must seek immediate assistance from the computing staff (do not try printing a second time) or you will not be eligible to receive a credit for the bad print job.

WARNING: Click to print only once--and only when you are certain you want to print. Unintentional or duplicate print jobs still count against your print allocation.

Exceeding Free Printing Allotment

Invoices are e-mailed, typically once a month, to students who exceed their free printing allotments. However, invoices are not required to pay for outstanding print charges, and you may make payments at any time.

Print Freezes

A print freeze will be imposed if you fail to pay an outstanding balance by the "Due Date" - normally net-20 to net-30 days - that is indicated on an invoice. In other words, you will typically receive an invoice by e-mail that explicitly provides you with advance notice of a potential print freeze. The exception is at the end of each semester when you must clear an outstanding print balance.

End of Semester and Graduation

At the end of each semester, it is your responsibility to clear actual pages you have printed in excess of your free printing allotment. Since print balances constantly change, print account invoices are inherently advisory in nature.

Self-monitoring your print balance is especially critical in your graduating semester. An outstanding print balance at the end of your graduating semester will result in the placement of a hold on your grades and transcript. The hold will be lifted after payment is received.

The library will e-mail an end-of-semester notice, with ample advance time, to graduating students. This notice will specify the date by which print charges must be cleared in order to avoid a hold on grades and transcript. That date is typically around May 30 for the spring semester. For December graduates, that date is typically around December 20.

How to Pay in Person

Payments must be made by check, payable to Gonzaga University. Credit card payments are not accepted. You may deposit your payment in the drop box located behind the Circulation Desk. If you need help locating the drop box, please check with the Circulation staff. Please be aware that it may take up to two business days to credit your account after receipt of payment.

How to Pay by Mail

To pay by mail, send a check, payable to Gonzaga University, to the following address:

Gonzaga University Law Library

Attention: Lesley Lee

P.O. Box 3528

Spokane, WA  99220-3528

How to Purchase Additional Pages

You may purchase additional pages at any time at the cost of $0.06 per page (e.g., 50 pages would be $3.00). Purchased pages are non-refundable. You may combine payments for invoiced pages and additional pages on one check. Follow the payment instructions in this section.

Printing after Graduation

For one year following graduation, you may continue to use the computer labs, the wireless network, and the library printers. Any free printing allotment you have remaining at graduation will remain available for your use. However, if you exceed your free allotment by more than 100 pages, you will be unable to print further without purchasing additional pages. Follow the purchase instructions in this section.

Questions about Your Print Account
