Access for Individuals with Disabilities

The library staff is available to assist persons with disabilities to obtain access to materials and services in the library. For assistance, or to make suggestions regarding access to the library, please contact staff at the Circulation or Reference Desks.

Advertising Personal Items for Sale

There are two ways to publish information about personal items you have for sale, such as books, concert tickets, and so forth:

  • You may post a notice on the bulletin board located inside the Café Lawte
  • E-mail John Weingarten with information about your items for sale. The subject line of messages sent to John for distribution must start with, "FOR SALE—PLEASE FORWARD." John groups everyone's submissions each week and sends out a message to all law students.

Audiocassette and Digial Voice Recorders

The library has two audiocassette records available to use for taping classes or listening to audiotapes. When taping you must supply your own cassette tapes. A digital voice recorder is also available. You can reserve an audiocassette or digital voice recorder for use at specific times.

CALI - Computer-Assisted Legal Research

CALI, the Center for Computer-Assisted Legal Instruction, provides interactive tutorials and lessons across a wide array of subject areas. These tutorials are updated on a regular basis. CALI lessons are available on CD and through CALI's website.

Entering 1Ls receive a complimentary CALI CD during orientation. 2Ls and 3Ls may purchase updated disks for $1.00 each from the Circulation Desk. Furthermore, all students have free access to CALI's website.

It is necessary to register the first time you use the CALI website. To register go to the CALI homepage and click on the "Not a registered user yet?" link under "My CALI." You will need to enter the student authorization code for Gonzaga, which is available at the reference desk (323-3758) or by sending an e-mail to: reference@lawschool.gonzaga.edu. During the registration process you will need to create your own password. In subsequent visits, to use the lessons, you will only need to enter your law school e-mail address and your password.

Emergency Contact Number

The Circulation Desk (323-5792) serves as the primary contact point for persons trying to locate law students due to emergencies. Emergencies are defined as illnesses, deaths in the family, or other equally serious situations. The Library has no general message service.

Upon receiving an emergency call, the Circulation Desk employee will ask the caller for the following information: name of law student, type of emergency, phone number and name of person to call, and any information helpful in locating the student. The Circulation Desk employee will then make every effort to locate the law student and inform him or her of the emergency.

Instructional Media Equipment

The library maintains a variety of instructional media equipment that can be used by students. Available equipment includes the following: TVs, VCRs, LCD projectors, overhead projectors, and computers equipped with DVD players. First-time users must be trained prior to using the equipment. To be certain that support will be available, requests for training or help in using the instructional media equipment must be made to Dalean Neiner (323-3795) at least one business day in advance.

Laptops and Network Cards

The library has a limited number of laptop computers and a limited number of network cards and cords (e.g. CAT 5) for wired and wireless network access available for student use. Each laptop is equipped with an integrated modem. Laptops and network cards/or cords may be checked out at the Circulation Desk.

Law Announcements

Students do not have authority to send school-wide announcements through the email system. However, there may be times when a student needs to send a message to a larger group such as the 1Ls, 2Ls, or 3Ls or the entire Law School. To do so, simply send a pre-written announcement to the email address Law Announcements.

Announcements must be written by the person who wants the announcement forwarded. Make sure to indicate the nature of the announcement in the subject line. Messages that are appropriate for forwarding by Law Announcements include notices about law school approved events. If approved, your message will be forwarded the next weekday morning. There are no "rush" law announcements.

Announcements about car lights should be directed to the Admissions Office, 323-5532.

Library Website

The Library maintains a website with useful information about the Library such as staff contact information, hours, a copy of this Student User Guide, and links to Chester and other electronic resources. The URL for the home page is www.law.gonzaga.edu/library.

Lost and Found

If you find lost items at the law school or in the library, please bring them to the Circulation Desk. Lost items are kept at the Circulation Desk during the semester in which they are turned in. Items not claimed by the end of each semester are donated to charity or discarded.

Study Rooms

The library has 16 study rooms of various sizes on the second and third floors for student use. These rooms may be reserved for use for up to four hours per study group or individual per day. The sign-up book to reserve the study rooms is located in front of the Kelley Reading Room. Reservations may be made up to one week in advance (Sunday through Monday of the next week). Room schedules are posted daily on study room doors so that study groups and individuals may easily check room availability. Reservations are forfeited if the study group or individual who reserved the room is more than fifteen (15) minutes late and someone else has claimed the room. Reservations are forfeited if the same study group or individual reserves a study room under different names. All Library policies, including the ban on eating and cellular telephone use, apply to the study rooms.

Persons who wish to view DVDs and videotapes have priority to use those rooms equipped with DVD/video players and monitors. In other rooms, study groups have priority over individuals.

A limited number of study rooms are reserved for exclusive use by various Moot Court teams during those times they are preparing their Moot Court Briefs.

During exam periods, some study rooms may be reserved by the law school Registrar for ADA compliant exams. A section of study carrels on the third floor is set aside during exam periods for those in need of a place to take "take-home" exams.
