Faculty Research Support

spacer

The reference librarians are available to provide research support for short-term projects (up to 10 hours duration) on a first-come, first-served basis. The time frame for completion of projects will be established with you at the time the work is requested. We encourage you to make requests well in advance of the time when your research is needed so that your research schedule can be met. The purpose of this service is to provide timely research for limited projects. Requests may be made to Pat Charles (ext. 3739) For long-term or ongoing research projects, faculty members are encouraged to hire research assistants.

Research Assistant Training and Support

At your request, the reference librarians will train your research assistants in the process of legal research. We will also meet one-on-one with your research assistants to suggest research strategies for particular research projects. Contact Pat Charles (ext. 3739).

Reference and Research Support -- Reference Desk

During specified hours, reference assistance is available at the Reference Desk, which is located to the immediate right upon entering through the main Library doors. If you need reference support and find no librarian at the Reference Desk, please ask at the Circulation Desk to speak with one of the reference librarians. Reference service is regularly available from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Limited reference support is available at other times.

You also may contact Buck Sterling (ext. 3753) or Merri Hartse (ext.3749) to receive assistance during business hours.

Reference questions may also be submitted to the Library by email. Our reference staff will provide brief answers via email to specific questions. You can expect a response within 24 hours, except on weekends and during holidays or other times when the Library is closed.

Training on the Use of Electronic Resources

At your request the reference librarians will provide training on the use of electronic resources. Contact Merri Hartse (ext.3749) or Buck Sterling (ext. 3753).

Periodical Routing

At your request the Library will route specified periodicals to you. Items selected are routed at the time they are received in the Library. After use, please return the items to the Library or pass them on to the next person on the routing list. To request that a periodical be routed to you, call or email Cheryl Pritchard (ext.3761).

SmartCILP

SmartCILP is a service that provides customized email delivery of the Current Index to Legal Periodicals to individual subscribers. To subscribe, alert Merri Hartse (ext. 3749) that you are interested in receiving this service and give her the information regarding the types of periodicals and subject areas that are of interest to you. After setting up a SmartCILP profile, each week you will receive an email listing of the table of contents from recent periodicals that focus on the subject headings and journals you have selected.

A six-week archive of complete issues of the Table of Contents service is available in the law school public folder titled CILP. To access individual issues click on the selections you wish to review. This database is available to all faculty members regardless of registration status.
