Biographical Information

  • Associate, Partner and Of Counsel at Kirkland & Ellis, 1984-2003.
  • Litigation at the trial and appellate level, preliminary injunction hearings, TRO hearings, ex parte seizures, mediation and ADR proceedings concerning such subject matters as trademark and trade dress, false advertising, copyright, patents and design patents, Internet marketing, cybersquatting, non-competition covenants, confidentiality and trade secret disputes, and business torts.
  • Counseling, clearance, prosecution and enforcement programs for trademarks, service marks, design patents, trade names, domain names and corporate names. ICANN and WIPO proceedings by trademark owners challenging cybersquatters.
  • Pro bono representation of Illinois death row inmate Willie Enoch from 1989 until his death of natural causes in prison in April 2000.
  • Pro bono representation of indigent artists through Lawyers For The Creative Arts.
  • Numerous lectures and speeches before the International Trademark Association, American Intellectual Property Law Association, International Trademark Administrators, and Chicago Bar Association regarding various Intellectual Property and litigation topics.
