Tom Tremaine

Biographical Information

Tom Tremaine is the senior attorney in the Spokane office of Northwest Justice Project, a federally funded program providing free civil legal services to low income people throughout the state of Washington. 

Tom began his career in legal aid as a paralegal in New Hampshire in 1979 and has served as a legal advocate for the poor continuously since that time. He received his J.D. (Cum Laude) from Gonzaga University School of Law in 1985.

His legal aid experience has included extensive practice in the areas of public benefits, landlord-tenant, family, and Indian law.

He has also served on several nonprofit boards in the Spokane community including Spokane Neighborhood Action Programs, the N.A.T.I.V.E. Project and Native Health. He serves on the advisory boards for the Northeast Washington Legal Aid Program, Spokane County Bar Association Volunteer Lawyers Program and the Whitman County Bar Association Volunteer Lawyer Program.

Tom has been a frequent speaker at continuing legal education seminars on landlord-tenant law and provides Indian Child Welfare Act training for  volunteers with the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) programs around the state.
