Biographical Information

Bill Dodge is a 1972 graduate of Eastern Washington University. He taught school for Spokane School District #81 until 1976 when he entered law school at Gonzaga. He graduated from law school in 1980 and was admitted to the Washington State bar that year.

Since graduating from law school Prof. Dodge has pursued parallel career paths:

  • Entered the U.S. Navy as a Direct Commission Officer and Judge Advocate (JAG) in 1981. He served on active duty for 3 1/2 years until his Honorable Discharge in 1984. He continued his military affiliation as a drilling reservist with the Navy Reserve Intelligence Command until his retirement after 27 years of continuous service as a Captain (O6) in 2008.
  • Held the following positions: Assistant Attorney General in the Spokane Attorney General Office (1984 - 88); Estate Administrator for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Eastern District of Washington (1988 - 89); private practice 1989 until 1991 when he was recalled to active duty with the Navy during Desert Storm. He was selected as a Commissioner Pro Tem for Spokane County Superior Court in 1990 but was unable to sit in that capacity due to his mobilization. On his return from active duty he served as a Claims Officer for the Division of Child Support (1991 - 1997).
  • Taught Business Law and Corporate Social Responsibility as an Adjunct Professor at various colleges since 1982.
  • Served as a Court-appointed Guardian ad Litem (GAL) for elderly and other incapacitated persons under RCW 11.88 since 1994. He currently serves on the RCW 11.88 Guardianship committee for Spokane County Superior Court and on the GAL Training committee for annual mandatory GAL training.

Prof. Dodge was appointed as an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) for the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH) in December 1997 and is currently holding that office.

As an ALJ, Prof. Dodge has acted as field supervisor for six Gonzaga extern law students at OAH.
