Biographical Information

Michael J. Chappell has been the Director of the Gonzaga Environmental Law Clinic since the Fall of 2009. The Environmental Law Clinic provides legal representation to not-for-profit environmental programs in the Inland Northwest. The Clinic's primary client is the Spokane Riverkeeper, a program of the Center for Justice, but also represents Lake Pend Oreille Waterkeeper, Kootenai Environmental Alliance and Idaho Conservation League.

Prior to joining Gonzaga, Prof. Chappell worked in San Francisco for a law firm representing each of the California Keepers in Clean Water Act citizen suit enforcement actions. During his seven years in California, Prof. Chappell worked on approximately 60 Clean Water Act cases filed in Federal District Court, and several permit challenges before the regulatory agency and when necessary in California State Courts.
