Library Program
The Chastek Library is an integral part of the educational experience at Gonzaga University School of Law.
It provides a laboratory where students can learn to research, analyze, and apply legal principles. It also supports faculty members by purchasing materials needed to support their scholarship and classroom instruction.
Library endowments can fulfill these needs and ensure the continued strength of Chastek Library's general and special subject collections.
Chastek Library serves as a major community resource for Spokane and the surrounding area. It is very common to see attorneys, or their law clerks, in the library researching issues for their clients.
The library also contains a collection of "Pro Se" materials for use by non-legally trained individuals.
The library is continually updating and expanding its resources. Today, one of the Library's greatest challenges is to add new electronic resources while retaining print resources needed by users.
It must also meet the challenge of providing electronic access to all materials.
In this environment, the need for sophisticated, knowledgeable librarians who can help users access this information becomes even more important.
Gonzaga Center for Law and Justice Clinical Program $750,000
Gonzaga University School of Law established one of the first and finest clinical education programs in the county.
Gonzaga's Clinic Program has been described as a "crown jewel," whose national reputation grows every year.
Gonzaga is committed to the clinic both for the unparalleled educational opportunity it provides students and for the vital service it renders to those who can least afford quality legal representation.
The Law School's clinical program is at the core of what Gonzaga University strives to provide in education:
- sensitivity toward serving others
- an opportunity to learn through providing a service while still in school.
For most of its existence, government grants covered a substantial part of the clinic's costs. However, government cutbacks have put the clinic's costs squarely back on the law school budget.
Gonzaga knows the value of this program and is committed to its continued operation.
A gift for the clinic provides critical financial resources, ensuring that this program will be maintained at a high level for years to come.
