Federal Tax Clinic Attends U.S. Tax Court
The United States Tax Court held a session in Spokane, Washington, during the week of October 5, 2009.
The Director of the Federal Tax Clinic and nine student interns attended the October 5, 2009 Calendar Call. The Hon. Judge Juan F. Vasquez introduced the Director and advised all present that the clinic was available to assist unrepresented taxpayers.
The Tax Clinic had three cases for settlement on the calendar, and the students helped six unrepresented taxpayers. We obtained favorable settlements for some of the taxpayers and a continuance for others.
Gonzaga students also attended trials during the week to observe, and the Director assisted at the recall session later in the week.
The Tax Court visits Spokane usually once each year, and the Gonzaga Federal Tax Clinic is “recognized” by the Court because we have met the requirements for an Academic Clinical Program to represent taxpayers in Tax Court.
