The public service projects I have done in law school are invaluable. We have so much power and ability to help people in need in this profession.

As a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA/Guardian ad Litem) volunteer, you are trusted with the truly amazing responsibility of representing the best interests of an abused and neglected child in Court - without the usual requirement of bar passage or Rule 9 status. In other words, after thirty hours of training, you are given the opportunity to positively change someone's chances for the future.

Working with Friend-to-Friend has been so rewarding for me. This organization pairs volunteer visitors with people in nursing homes who don't have any friends or family members to visit them EVER. They only ask you to commit to visiting your adopted friend twice a month for about 20 minutes, although you can go more often or adopt more than one person to visit. This is a really worthy organization that's about to go under financially. I encourage everyone to contribute either time or money to Friend-to-Friend. You will be rewarded tenfold! ;

My experience in thirteen years of working with Gonzaga staff and students is that they are "a cut above". In terms of the students especially, because I've worked with more of them, their commitment, level of maturity, and energy for life, exceeds that of most students at all the other local colleges and universities.

I have been working with undergraduate public relations students from Gonzaga and elsewhere around the country on job skills (writing, media relations and other skills) and interview techniques. In some cases, I have helped arrange job interviews for students, and a couple the students with whom I have worked are now in their "dream job." I receive a great deal of personal satisfaction from working with students, and I love the fact that they stay in contact with me to tell me about their new jobs.

This is the first year that we have been able to connect law school students with the agency's School Based Mentoring Program. The response has been great and what qualified candidates. The kids they are matched to think it is "kool" to know a future lawyer. They make great role models. They have been a wonderful group and we hope at the agency that the association can continue. The use of your email system seemed the best way to let students now about the program.
