This course is designed to provide a contemporary and historical inter-disciplinary perspective on the legal themes and theoretical bases for sex classification and discrimination. The subject matter includes:

• An examination of the competing theories of the origin and nature of gender inequality
• Violence against women
• Discrimination in employment
• Pregnancy and childbearing
• Current challenges to sexism in family law
• Gender bias in the adjudicatory and alternative dispute-resolution processes
