  • Students may apply for guaranteed student loans to cover the cost of tuition and fees, books and supplies, room and board, personal miscellaneous expenses, and transportation.
  • Lending arrangements must be made by the student borrower through the law school where the student is enrolled.
  • For students from law schools other than Gonzaga, their law schools must have a signed consortium agreement with Gonzaga University.
  • Gonzaga students holding merit or other tuition-based scholarships cannot apply those scholarships to the Florence Summer Law Program.
  • Because of the payment deadlines, it is important that you secure your summer financial aid at the earliest possible time (early February for Gonzaga students). It may be necessary for students to make interim financial arrangements to meet payment deadlines.
  • Deadlines will not be waived or extended.

Withdrawal from the Florence Program

  • If a student chooses to withdraw from the Florence Summer Law Program after April 1 and prior to May 1, Gonzaga will partially refund the tuition and fees up to the amount paid, less any expenditures already advanced on their behalf.
  • The application fee is non-refundable.
  • The partial refund will be further reduced by an amount equal to any unavoidable losses or costs to Gonzaga.
  • Partial refunds are paid only if the student gives written notification no later than the close of business on May 1.

Cancellation Disclaimer

  • Gonzaga reserves the right to alter or cancel the Florence Summer Law Program.
  • Cancellation could occur if the program does not meet a minimum enrollment by April 1, or if unforeseen international events occur that would adversely affect program operations or compromise student safety.
  • In the unlikely event of program cancellation, students will be notified in writing by May 1, and all advance deposits and payments refunded.

What Students Say ...

"I had the opportunity in Florence to interact with and get to know my professors and other students on a personal level that would never have been possible on campus. We shared experiences, talked about everything, went sightseeing together, and shared meals. The friends I made in Florence are now amongst my closest. How do you not become close to a group of people you spend six weeks with. Who else is going to run alongside you with the bulls in Pamplona, swim among sharks with you on the Italian Riviera, agree to stay in a cramped seedy hostel in Rome, or share a huge cone of fries with you in Amsterdam. And amazingly, the cost of this incredible personal experience was the equivalent to what it would have cost me to live and take the same number of summer credits at Gonzaga on-campus."

"Studying abroad in Florence was a wonderful experience.  The opportunity to get to know my classmates and professors in an informal yet dynamic setting was priceless.  It was a great way to spend a portion of the summer, and the schedule left lots of time to work at Columbia Legal Services, a non-profit legal aid organization, when I returned.

My varied summer experience at the end of my first year certainly contributed to securing my current employment as a law clerk with the Washington State Supreme Court. Employers look for well-rounded candidates who show a passion for learning and the law; a study abroad program indicates an interest in both. Work experience is important, and it certainly came up in my interview with State Supreme Court Justice Bobbe Bridge. But we discussed many other things as well, including my interest in international human rights and women's rights, which developed out of my Florence classes. In addition, I recently published a law review article on violence and exploitation of women workers abroad, a topic that was covered in both courses. I easily got the best of all worlds that summer after my first year and I wouldn't trade it for anything."

"Many students might look at the brochure and be dissuaded by the cost.  I know that I was at first. But the truth be told, it was worth every penny. The experience you gain in Florence far surpasses anything that can be offered to you at home. The city, the culture, the people, the classes, the professors, all combine to give you a month of your life that you will never forget.  If I could give any advice to any student at Gonzaga Law or any other law school, it would be:  sign up for Florence, RIGHT NOW!"
