The course will familiarize students with the federal and state laws and regulations designed to combat fraud and abuse in the delivery of health care. The course will examine the history, enforcement, and interpretation of the civil False Claims Act, the federal anti-kickback statute, the federal Anti-Self-Referral law (“Stark II”), the Civil Money Penalties Law, HIPAA, and various state laws and regulations aimed at preventing fraud and abuse in the health care industry. The course will also explore the powers and jurisdiction of the various federal and state enforcers of these laws, and industry responses to these enforcement efforts. Enrollment will be limited to 20 students. |
