Art and Jurisprudence
The Art and Jurisprudence course aims to examine the ideological continuum between the discourses of art and jurisprudence. It invites students to engage in a critique of law as a specific cultural artifact by focusing on the way legal structures and art forms have contrasted and converged in different moments of history. From Greek drama and sculpture to the instant mobs of our times, the course explores a variety of art forms and the complex ways in which they relate to legal structures. Classes are in debate form and students are constantly asked to present their views on specific works and build up connections between the discourses of art and jurisprudence.
